I'm a mum to 4-year-old who is an only child, I see how much my daughter loves to role-play. Her imagination knows no bounds, and I’m often in awe of the intricate storylines she creates for her dolls. But I have to admit, it’s sometimes hard for me to keep up. When we play together, my mind is often preoccupied with other mundane tasks that need my attention.
It’s true as we get older and life gets busier, we tend to lose touch with the value of imagination. Your essay was a powerful reminder of its importance, and it has inspired me to take those small pockets of time to just imagine. I don't need to listen to a podcast while washing the dishes and sometimes I can drive without listening to music.
I always enjoy your ruminations on deepening into this life...to be one that notices. I've been in a season of proposal writing and it's been so essential to have time for play. I too grew up as a never bored child of tremendous imagination. May we never lose it. This weekend I'm dedicating time to reading on the balcony and drawing up some of these conceptions of time I've been exploring. Thank you for writing!
I've been sitting with your first line for a few days and it means so much to me. Thank you for witnessing my thoughts. Loving hearing about how you're leaning into your creative process with the space to play alongside ❤️
"...where we tantalise ourselves in thoughts and ideas of how to make a miracle out of each day." I simply adore this. Just what I needed to be reminded of before a day of "doing".
I recently saw a brand founder sharing her daily itinerary and she included "ideation time" which seemed like such an obvious yet perfect addition. In so many roles, we need to do it anyway, so why are we not honouring it and leaving the spaciousness for it.
🙏
Wow, Giselle, that was such an amazing read!

THIS! Adore ideation time being diarised. It feels crucial doesn't it 💕
